Q: My wife and I recently bought a new house. It has a small-ish kitchen with a nice countertop, but the cabinets are not so nice. We don't have a lot of money left over after the purchase, but would really like to do something with those cabinets. I was thinking I'd try refacing them myself. The cabinets are from the 80s; the previous owners painted them blue. We hate the color, and the door style is not our favorite either. But as far as the structure of the cabinets, they are in good...

Q:Our dogs chewed on the bottom corners of our kitchen cabinets. They're wood, not painted. Is there any way to restore this so the cabinets look like new again? I was thinking I could patch them and then cover the whole side of the cabinet with a thin piece of material that matchest the rest of the cabinets. No clue if that's possible or how to get started (where to buy supplies, etc). I've never done any kind of cabinet repair, so please word your reply for a complete newbie!

Q: I'm about to head off to a big box store for some in stock kitchen cabinets for a rental unit that I own. I'm on a tight budget so I plan on buying unfinished cabinets. I need some advise on what is the best way to stain them. Should I use a brush or a rag to apply the stain? What type of finish should I apply to get the best results? These are oak cabinets.
A: I prefer to use a brush to apply the oil stain and then use a rag to wipe up the excess - it is quicker than doing it all with a...

Q:I am purchasing some in stock kitchen cabinets from Lowe's for a rental unit that I own. There are 2 cabinets, a base & a wall cabinet that are recessed inside a wall where the opening is 25-3/4" wide. However, the cabinets are 24" wide. How can I reduce the opening so the cabinets will fit snugly on each side to give a finished look? The walls are sheetrock. Thanx.
A:Cut filler pieces, same wood as cabinets, and attach to cabinet sides to just fill the extra space. Usually available...

We're looking at doing a "cheap" redecoration of our Kitchen. Our cabinets are old, darker wood - We're looking to paint the cabinets, new countertops, and put a new floor in. My question, request- Can anyone provide pictures of kitchens that have been painted that Are Not white? We're trying to come up with a color scheme, and all I can find pictures of are white cabinets. We don't want to go crazy, just looking for options. If you have any ideas, or pictures, I sure would appreciate an email. |
