Heat Glazing and Ceramic Firing is the ONLY SAFE way to be sure that you are buying Safe, Non Toxic items
You should stay away from sealants or decopauge used by many vendors today in "home made" crafts. Lacquer is a widely used "sealant" for most homemade knobs & pulls & is Very Toxic even when dried. This is especially true for children, pets & elderly people.
You should also shy away from Wooden knobs whether they are painted or natural. Wooden knobs are not very practical for use in kitchens or baths. They will and can retain moisture, leading to toxic mold & mildew. Most wooden knobs are also decopauge or lacquer sealed. Most paints used on wooden knobs are also Toxic.
Though kitchen cabinet hardware is not the most important part of the cabinets, it may do some harm to you or your family. Before you buy, make sure your Hardware has been heat glazed or fired so they are Safe for you family & little ones. |
